| Second Place Write Up - 02/10/2008 |

Erich won the day so thought I'd give him a break and do a second place write up. I wasn't sure if we would actually sail today since it was predicted to blow 20 to 30mph depending on which forecast you looked at. Of course it's always a good idea to come out to the marina and see what the weather looks like. When I got to the marina it was looking light so the couple people that showed up decided to go out. Winds were coming from the north westish direction so the mark was near the creek, which I knew was going to be an issue.
The first couple races I did ok, dueling it out with Robert and Dan. In the fourth race I got a bad start near the pin, I needed to tack onto port and now. I did and fouled Tom... D'oh! After I got out of his way I did a turn and headed to the windward mark. By this time Erich, Robert and Sam were rounding the jibe mark. I was far behind... By the time I reached the jib mark those guys were about to round the leeward mark. Then Erich capsized, then Robert and Sam. I hauled ass, and managed to get around them before they could get up. First place, wow! Not for long… Erich righted himself and by the halfway point of the leg was ahead of me. I tacked on the layline, but Robert managed to also pull ahead. Ah so close… After the forth races the winds picked up and it was time to head home. Minor chaos followed us into the dock, but everybody made it in safely.
Lesson of the week, always come out before you write the day off…
