Directions to the Washington Sailing Marina

If you are not bringing a boat, go past the little guard house and gate on your right and park in the restaurant parking lot.  Cross the grass and rows of boats on your right to get to the area of the sailboat launching cranes.

If you are bringing a boat, look for the little guard house and gate on your right.  Tell the guard you are coming to sail in such in such PRSA race or regatta.  You'll get a discount on the launch fees.

Which direction are you coming from?  DC, points North, points South, points East, or points West.

From DC

The closest metro stop is Reagan National Airport on the Yellow Line.  Unfortunately, this is about 1.5 miles to the north of the marina, so you'd still have a fairly long walk.

Cross the 14th Street Bridge and take the exit for Reagan National Airport (onto George Washington Parkway south toward Alexandria).  In a few minutes you'll be passing the airport.  The WSM is a left hand turn 1.5 miles past Reagan National Airport (measured from the control tower).   The sign will say Washington Sailing Marina, Daingerfield Island, Potowmack Landing Restaurant. 

From points North

Route 95 South.  When it hits the beltway, take Route 495 South/West.  In about 15 minutes and just after crossing the bridge into Virginia take the George Washington Parkway South towards Washington, DC.  In about 15 minutes, the WSM is a left hand turn 1.5 miles past Reagan National Airport (measured from the control tower).   The sign will say Washington Sailing Marina, Daingerfield Island, Potowmack Landing Restaurant.  

From points South

Route 95 North.  At the  beltway, continue toward Washington DC on 395 North.  Just before crossing into DC take the exit for Reagan National Airport (and Boundary Channel Drive) (onto George Washington Parkway South).   The WSM is a left hand turn 1.5 miles past Reagan National Airport (measured from the control tower).   The sign will say Washington Sailing Marina, Daingerfield Island, Potowmack Landing Restaurant.  

Alternatively, when 95 hits the beltway, follow 95 north in the direction of Baltimore.  In about 5 minutes, take the exit for Route 1 North.  Soon after the exit, turn right onto Franklin Street.  In a few blocks turn left onto Washington Street.  Follow Washington Street through Old Town Alexandria until it turns into the George Washington Parkway.  Once you pass the light at Slaters Lane be on the lookout for a right hand turn into the Washington Sailing Marina.  

From points East 

For the less adventurous.  Route 50 west.  When you reach the beltway follow Route 95 South toward Richmond.  In about 15 minutes, you cross the Wilson Bridge over the Potomac into Virginia.   Take the exit for Route 1 North.  Soon after the exit, turn right onto Franklin Street.  In a few blocks turn left onto Washington Street.  Follow Washington Street through Old Town Alexandria until it turns into the George Washington Parkway.  Once you pass the light at Slaters Lane be on the lookout for a right hand turn into the Washington Sailing Marina.  

For the adventurous.  Route 50 west.  Continue past beltway toward DC.  Take exit for Kenilworth Ave & 295 South.   Take Howard Street exit.  Turn right, go a block or two, and merge right to cross the South Capitol Street bridge over the Anacostia River.  In a few blocks take right split towards Route 395.  On that ramp stay in left lane to take Route 395 SOUTH.   Once on 395, move over a few lanes to avoid inadvertently exiting.  Cross the 14th Street bridge and take the exit for Reagan National Airport (onto George Washington Parkway south toward Alexandria).  In a few minutes you'll be passing the airport.  The WSM is a left hand turn 1.5 miles past Reagan National Airport (measured from the control tower).   The sign will say Washington Sailing Marina, Daingerfield Island, Potowmack Landing Restaurant. 

From points West

Route 66 East.  Before crossing into DC, take Route 110 South.   After passing the Pentagon, take Route 395 North.  Before crossing into DC take the exit for Reagan National Airport (and Boundary Channel Drive) (onto George Washington Parkway).   The WSM is a left hand turn 1.5 miles past Reagan National Airport (measured from the control tower).   The sign will say Washington Sailing Marina, Daingerfield Island, Potowmack Landing Restaurant.
