Spring Series #2:  April 9, 2000

Racing cancelled.  Coast guard had issued a small craft advisory.  At noon the airport reported winds at 24 mph (21 kts) gusting to 37 mph (33 kts) out of the WNW.  Around 10:00, two hours before high tide, the mud flats were exposed due to the wind.

Conditions: While oscillating, the wind backed from WNW (305) to WSW (205).  Its strength varied from 5 to 14 knots with most of the puff from the right.  High tide was at 10:50 am so in the later races the current was pushing people up to the line.  There was a fair among of big boat chop.   There were two capsizes.

Race committee: Open Cat's ran it. Chris Bolton (chair), Don Brock, and Michael Kreeb.  East winds led to short courses: Gold cup, 7-leg W-L, 6-leg W-L, Gold cup.  

While rigging boats on-shore the wind was 15+. But by the time we go to the course it had quieted down considerably to 5-8 with puffs as high as 12 and lulls as soft as 1. The lulls were at 60 and the puffs at 90. We thought the pressure was a bit better on the left but we didn't want to get too far away from those righties. As the day wore on, the wind generally clocked. By the last race the wind was at 120, died, and came in briefly from 60. Tide was coming in from 11:30 onward and was a real factor at the windward mark.

Wind: 15-25 form the NW, puffs to 30 in race 3, wind shifted through a range of 30-40 degrees, but was consistently shifty in that range throughout the day, waves 1-2', nice long courses - triangle-sausage for all three. About four boats went over throughout the day, two catamarans recovered and kept racing.
