Please note that to enter the LEUKEMIA CUP you may go here to register, and you must register for the President’s Cup. Its easy just raise a minimum of $100.00 to enter. Of course we are all raising lots of money for this years Leukemia Cup event in the name of one of our own who is fighting the disease right now.

Notice of Races
1 RULES
1.1 The Potomac River Sailing Association will organize the President’s/Leukemia Cup Regatta on the Potomac River from the Washington Sailing Marina in Alexandria, VA.
1.2 These races will be governed by the rules as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing.
2 ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY
2.1 All class-legal boats in one-design classes 20’ or under are invited to participate. Classes of 5 or more boats will be started separately. Classes of fewer than 5 boats may be combined with another class.
2.2 All competitors must complete an entry form and pay an entry fee to the Potomac River Sailing Association.
2.3 The entry form may be completed and the entry fee paid on-line at:

3 ENTRY FEES
Lower course classes (1 day of racing)

These fees do NOT include the party on Saturday that is donated by Guest Services at the Washington Sailing Marina on behalf of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Those tickets are obtained from the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. See 9.1 below.
These fees DO include a BBQ on Sunday that is provided by the Potomac River Sailing Association.
Competitors are also encouraged to solicit and make charitable contributions to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to support their vital work. See 9.2 – 9.4 below.

6 VENUE
6.1 The Washington Sailing Marina is located just off of the George Washington Parkway about 1.5 miles south of Reagan National Airport and a similar distance north of Old Town Alexandria. The street address for Internet directions is 1 Marina Drive, Alexandria, Virginia 22314.
6.2 Upper course: Classes scheduled to sail for 2 days will sail off of Haines Point (with the Capitol and monuments as a backdrop).
Lower course: Classes scheduled to sail for 1 day (Penguins, El Toros, Flying Scots, and Lasers) will sail off of the powerplant located approximately one mile south of the Washington Sailing Marina dinghy lifts .
Opti course: Optis will sail in the cove in front of and to the north of the docks by the cranes.
7 SCORING
7.1 One race is required to be completed to constitute a series.
7.2 If fewer than 6 races are completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores. This changes RRS A2. If 6 races are completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score.
7.3 Leukemia Cup racers will not be separately scored.
8 PRIZES
8.1 Trophies: Awards will be given to each member of the winning crews. The depth of awards will be based on the expected number of participants in each class; 3 deep for 9 or more boats, 2 deep for 5-8 boats, and 1 for 2-4 boats. The expected number will be estimated based on participation in 2008 or as provided by a fleet representative to the regatta chair (this communication will have been prior to the regatta).
8.2 Sailors will also compete for the perpetual Normal C. Schaller Memorial Trophy. It is awarded to the skipper with the best record in fleets of 10 or more starters in at least half the races.
9 SATURDAY PARTY, CHARITABLE CONTRIBUTIONS, AND INCENTIVES
9.1 Tickets for the Saturday party are available at the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society tables for $10 each or by soliciting/making contributions for $100 or more (see 9.2 below):

9.3 Multiple prizes for the top 10 individual fundraisers from across this, the PHRF, and poker run events include Mt. Gay Rum hats, electronics, special gifts from Gary, and more!
A fun prize pack will be awarded to each member of the top two fund-raising boats, that is, to the skipper and crew of the boat whose crew collectively raise the most and the second most. The Leukemia Cup will be awarded to the top fundraising boat across the PHRF Leukemia Cup Regatta and the (one design) President’s/Leukemia Cup Regatta.
9.4 National Prizes for Top Individual Fundraisers
West Marine $1,000 Shopping Spree Drawing – All Leukemia Cup participants who raise a minimum of $500 will be eligible for 1 chance in a national drawing to win! Earn additional chances for each $500 raised (e.g. $1,000 raised = 2 entries; $1,500 raised = 3 chances, etc.). The drawing will take place during the Gary Jobson Fantasy Sail Weekend. Need not be present to win.
Gary Jobson Fantasy Sail – All Leukemia Cup participants who raise a minimum of $8,500 will WIN a weekend trip including accommodations and travel to the Fantasy Sail weekend. The Fantasy Sail (with Gary Jobson) is scheduled for October 16-18 in San Francisco, California. Package includes round trip airfare for one person, two nights accommodation for two people (in one room), meals for one person, and participation in the Fantasy Sail.
Sailing World Foul Weather Gear – The top overall national individual fundraiser will receive an embroidered Sailing World foul weather gear sailing jacket, courtesy of Sailing World Magazine. Jacket awarded at Fantasy Sail Weekend.
PLEASE NOTE: For each awarded prize over a $600.00 value, the Society will issue a 1099. For each awarded prize over a $5,000.00 value, the Society will collect from the winner withholding equal to 25% of the prize value and remit such to the government.
