PRSA Hangover Regatta – January 1, 2011

What a day! We had our biggest Laser regatta ever today, 33 boats. Thanks to all that traveled to join us to help us push over the 30 boats mark. The weather could not have been better with temps in the 50’s and a south breeze 7-12 mph. We sailed in the river with the current coming in throughout the racing. There were 5 races.

Tim Zimmerman was untouchable with four firsts in five races and won the regatta handily.

Special thanks to our RC for the day Nabeel Alsalam, Rob Young, Collette Bolton, Mike Heinsdorf & Tom Berlin. Thanks also to Adam Dolezal who provided hot dogs for those who stuck around after racing.

Albacore 2010 Video Mashup

Check out the Some great shots of Albacores in anything from 10-30 knots of breeze from Sarasota, the Chesapeake and Canada.  Some great shots and commentary of Barney Harris, local Albacore sailor and current World Champion.  But will he be able to defend the Championship in the 2011 Internationals in Toronto, Canada?  Watch for the encore presentation after the credits.

2010 Doc Gilbert Potomac Cup Regatta

The annual Doc Gilbert Potomac Cup Regatta was held this past weekend down at Leesylvania State Park on the Potomac River. This year, in addition to the 25 Lightnings on hand, we had 9 Flying Scots join us for two days of great racing. Saturday was mostly clear with breezes from the SSW at 6-12kts, and on Sunday we got 10-15 under mostly cloudy skies. The conditions were just plain ideal for some really tight racing at times. The Lightning class was won by Ed Adams in a tight match with John Faus. I have to point out, however, that young Justin Copan really dominated the weekend with 4 bullets and a third. Why didn’t he win? Unfortunately for him, one of those bullets turned into a 26 as he was OCS. DOH!! Other than that faux pas, he really put on a clinic for us. On the Flying Scot side, David Neff won the top honors with 3 bullets and 2 deuces. Another dominant performance. As usual, Fleet 50 put on an excellent regatta, with some great RC work headed up by Bruce Bingman. Of course the awesome weather didn’t hurt either! complete scores after the break:

Jeff Neurauter Takes First PLace in the Buccaneer Class at the SMSA Small Boat Invitational!

We had two great days on the water at Solomons last weekend, with sunny skies, temperatures in the mid-70s, and northerly breezes at 8 – 12 MPH on Saturday and southeasterly breezes at 6 – 7 MPH on Sunday.  Only four Lightnings competed, so they were lumped with 3 Albacores, 2 Interlakes, a Flying Scot, two Force-5s, a Capri 14 and a JY 15 into a Portsmouth Class for scoring.   On the race course also were 14 Buccs (Aarrghhh); 6 Lasers; and 5 Windmills.  Congratulations to PRSA’s Jeff Neurauter who took first place in the Buccaneer class!
