Well after the government upchuck shutdown we came back for the second half of our messed up truncated fall series. Fall Series #6 brought some stiff and shifty winds out of the NW W SW . Well you get the picture. Here are those scores:
Fall Series #7 brought much less wind from sometimes no discernible direction at all. Here are those scores:

Fall Series #2 was a beautiful day on the river. We had nice breezes out of the NW (Mostly) and the RC headed by Jason Ipe got us four races in. Here are the scores:
Fall Series #3 was a drifter with PRO Nabeel getting in two races by sheer force of will. Here are the scores for the intrepid few who made it up to the course:
Sunday was absolutely beautiful with nice southerly breezes. RC, Dan Miller set up a WL course and got 4 races in for the few smart sailors who showed up. Nice to see more than one Scow coming out. Hope that’s a trend. Here are the scores:

What a fantastic weekend! We were pleasantly surprised with great breeze on both Saturday and Sunday, we had tight racing on both the upper and the lower courses, and we had great celebrations after the racing on both Saturday and Sunday. The folks on the lower course got 6 races on Saturday, and on the upper course we had 4 races on Saturday and 3 more on Sunday. All told there were 61 boats on our PRSA one design courses (14 Lightnings, 12 Albacores, 10 Cats/Scows, 7 Bucs, 7 El Toros, 4 Flying Scots, 4 Lasers, and 3 Penguins). You can’t ask for anything more in a regatta!
Many PRSA sailors also supported the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society through fundraising efforts and through their own contributions. As we went into the regatta weekend the fundraising total was trending towards $160,000+ and many sailors made generous donations at registration over the weekend. I’ll be sure to send along the final totals on the fundraising efforts once those figures are available from the LLS. In the meanwhile, a huge “thank you” on behalf of the LLS to all of you who contributed to the fundraising effort.

Continue reading 2013 President’s/Leukemia Cup: Great Wind, Great Racing, and a Great Celebration!
Registration is now open for the 2013 President’s/Leukemia Cup Regatta. You can register for the regatta and sign up to raise funds for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (optional, but encouraged!) using the registration form on the PRSA President’s/Leukemia Cup Regatta Webpage. The NOR as well as information on prizes and fundraising incentives from the LLS, has also been posted to the regatta webpage.
Early registration is a huge help for the regatta planners, so sign up now! Any boat that raises $100 before the regatta will be eligible for LLS racing awards based on your Saturday finishes as well as additional prizes and incentives from the LLS. Raise more than $100 and you’ll receive additional prizes and goodies from the LLS. You can request a fundraising webpage from the LLS right on the PRSA registration form, or you can bring cash/check donations to the regatta and turn them in at on-site registration.

Well the Spring Series is a wrap. Today I have the final results of our racing this past Sunday, but first I would like to share my thoughts on the day (Scores after the story):
As most of you know, my sailing this spring was abruptly ended, before it even began, on the first day of the spring series when my boat was sadly T-Boned into String Theory, leaving me with a rather large hole in her bow. Ariel has been in drydock for repairs ever since. This past Sunday I was bound and determined to get a ride on a boat and get some sailing in before the series was over. Towards that end I showed up bright and early to the marina looking for a ride. Sadly, all of my Lightning brethren had full crew, so it was looking grim for your humble narrator. I hung around and helped the RC splash the committee boats hoping for a last minute reprieve. It was so bad even the RC did not have room for me! I was getting ready to call it a day and go home when all of a sudden I heard the voice of an angel. Buccaneer skipper Kyra Tallon asked me if I would like to sail on a Bucc. Oh yes! I quickly replied, I would love to. I have not sailed a Bucc since I was in high school, so it would be a real treat to sail one of these nimble and fun boats again.
I have some fresh scores for you today. First, I was under the misapprehension that there was no racing for Spring #6, but I was wrong about that. Two Albacores braved the big breeze and had a great time getting in three races. Here are those scores:

I know that some of you must be tired of checking here each week only to NOT find any scores. Whats up with that, you say?? First, I apologize. I would like nothing better than to have the scores up with in a day or two of the racing. Unfortunately, that has not been possible yet this year. Why not? Well, first I have to get the scores from that weeks PRO. Sometimes that takes a few days. Then I sit down to compile them and I find errors, or new boats that are not registered, or someone sailing with a new sail #, or someone lending their boat to someone else, or something else completely unexpected. When this happens, which is pretty much every week, I have to email the PRO and/or the fleet captain in question and get the information before I can do the scores. That process can take days, and a couple of times this year it has taken weeks. There is not much I can do about it, I cannot score the races with incomplete or inaccurate information. Sorry about that. Having said all this, I have scores for you today from Spring Series #4, Spring Series #5, and Spring Series #7. Spring Series #6 was a blow out and no racing was recorded. I know some of you have been anxiously waiting for some results this spring. I finally got just enough of the information I need to complete them. So, here they are:
First, Week 1; What a blow out. A day that shall live in infamy… For me at least. A day my boat will never forget. It was a blow out with winds gusting over 30. Only the Lightnings, Albacores, and one lone Bucc braved it and came out. Here are the scores:

Ok I know the scores from #6 are late, but its not my fault this time. I swear! 🙂 It was another typical westie that day – shifty winds, up and down and all around. The sailing was fun until the fourth race that got a little confusing for the Lightnings. Two weeks, one long Redress hearing, and one hurricane later we finally have the results. The Protest Committee decided to throw out the last race for the Lightnings due to the confusion – a wise decision in my humble opinion, so only three races for them. Everyone else got four that day. Two weeks later, after the hurricane came and went, we gathered for the final day of racing for 2012 (Except for the Lasers that is). I can’t comment on the day since I was not able to attend. The Hobies handled the RC work and got three races in before calling it a season. Here are the scores:
